这首歌的由来，是由于John Lennon的离婚。
话说the Beatles在1968年计划出新唱片时，主唱约翰蓝侬John Lennon正在闹外遇。对 John来说，他的妻子 Cynthia只不过是一位因为怀孕而不得不结婚的对象。加上当时前卫思想激进，当John遇到充满艺术气息的曰本女子大洋野子Yoko Ono，就想与妻子离婚。
同团的Paul McCartney，看到好友做出这种抛妻弃子的事情，有点不以为然，尤其对于John的独子Julian，更是充满同情。于是他决定去探视这个孩子，看看有什么需要帮忙的。在途中，竟然有了创作的灵感。这首曲子，原本只是他用来安慰Julian的小礼物，后来会登上卖座冠军宝座，真是始料未及。而这首歌，原本叫Hey Jules，但是因为唱起来不太顺口，录音时才又改成Hey Jude。
